Question :

Dear Pastor Chris,
I am thirty-nine years old, and I've been a Christian for many years. I got married ten years ago, but I've been unable to bear children. I pray about it all the time, yet it's as though God does not hear me. This situation has caused me so much pain and has stolen my joy. Can I ever have my heart's desire?

Answer :

Dear Antonia,
Understand that with God all things are possible. God always hears His children when they pray, but it now depends on you and how you pray. From the book of 2nd Timothy chapter 6 verse 17, we know that God has given us everything to enjoy. Your experiencing this joy depends on your application of God's Word.

Here's what the Bible says about how God handled a chaotic situation, in Genesis 1:2-3. “And the earth was without form, and void; and darkness was upon the face of the deep. And the Spirit of God moved upon the face of the waters. And God said, Let there be light: and there was light.”

When God saw the chaotic mass which represented the earth, He didn't cry or complain. He began incubating on the beauty of light and creation, brooding on what His desired earth should look like. He desired that the earth be beautiful, and that there should be light in the earth. When He had fully conceived it, He brought it forth with His words; he spoke the beauty of the earth into being. God Himself spent time to meditate on what He wanted to create.

Every time God said 'let there be' He was speaking, creating, bringing into being. The Bible testifies to this in Hebrews 11:3: “Through faith we understand that the worlds were framed by the word of God, so that things which are seen were not made of things which do
appear.” God had been meditating, brooding over
the earth in the book of Genesis chapter one. It was only after this that He spoke 'words of faith' that brought all creation into existence. It all became a reality; for the Bible tells us what He saw and that it was all good. Abraham's and Sarah's experience looked contrary to God's Word, but he staggered not at the promise of God through unbelief, but was strong in faith giving glory to God (Romans 4:20). As he looked at the stars, he caught God's idea; he could see each star and imagine the faces of his children in those stars. His imagination caught it, and as such he became the father of many nations.
