Words are not merely sounds or syllables—they are spiritual containers with the power to shape realities. From the dawn of time, God demonstrated the creative force of words. Genesis 1 recounts how the Almighty framed the universe by speaking: “And God said, Let there be light: and there was light” (Genesis 1:3). He didn’t mold the light with His hands or design it with tools—He spoke it into being.
That same creative power has been imparted to us. Made in His image and likeness (Genesis 1:26), we too can create with our words. Every word we speak is a seed—carrying potential, influence, and consequence. What you say today can germinate into the harvest you live tomorrow. This brings us to a powerful question: What are you planting?
THE LAW OF SEEDTIME AND HARVEST APPLIES TO WORDS
In the natural world, no one sows corn and expects apples. In the same way, you cannot speak words of fear, doubt, anger, or failure and expect to reap peace, joy, and victory. Jesus illustrated this truth in Luke 8:11: “The seed is the word of God.” But just as God’s Word is seed, so are your own words.
Every time you speak, you are planting something in your life, your relationships, your future, and the atmosphere around you. Positive or negative, life-giving or death-dealing, words do not return void. Isaiah 55:11 (KJV) says, “So shall my word be that goeth forth out of my mouth: it shall not return unto me void, but it shall accomplish that which I please.” This divine principle applies to every word spoken in faith or fear.
The person you have become today is actually the result of all the words that have been sown into your life from childhood until now. These seeds were sown into you by those who raised you, those who taught you in school, and others who were in touch with you as you grew up. Hence, who you are today isn’t an accident.
Now, those people have sown either the right words or the wrong words into you. If the latter is the case, it means you need to make adjustments. It’s no use crying and regretting the past. You must start making the appropriate changes by sowing the right words into your life from today. Block the wrong stuff from getting into you, and refuse to talk trash about yourself. Rather, talk about success, victory, peace, love, and joy. As you do this, your life will begin to go in the right direction.
YOUR WORDS CARRY PROPHETIC POWER
Words are not only creative—they are prophetic. In Numbers 14:28 (KJV), God said, “As truly as I live, saith the Lord, as ye have spoken in mine ears, so will I do to you.” The Israelites sealed their fate with words of unbelief, fear, and complaint, and they reaped exactly what they declared.
Everything Jesus did, He did through His mouth. Whether healing the sick, multiplying bread, or calming the storm, He spoke. He understood the power of words and wielded it with authority. Likewise, your mouth is a tool of prophecy. Whether you know it or not, you are constantly shaping your tomorrow with what you declare today. That’s why Jesus said in Mark 11:23 (KJV), “...he shall have whatsoever he saith.” Notice He didn’t say, “what he believes,” but “what he saith.” Belief is crucial, but it must find expression in words.
BE INTENTIONAL WITH YOUR WORDS
You don’t get to choose whether your words have power—you only get to choose how you use that power. Are you planting seeds of faith, love, and life—or fear, bitterness, and defeat?
Colossians 4:6 admonishes us: “Let your speech be always with grace, seasoned with salt...” And in Ephesians 4:29, Paul instructs, “Let no corrupt communication proceed out of your mouth, but that which is good to the use of edifying.”
God is calling you to rise to a higher level of speech—where every word is deliberate, inspired, and productive. Don’t just speak your situation—speak your expectation. Speak the Word. Speak faith. Speak as one who understands that their voice is a vessel for divine outcomes.
Jesus made it clear that the mouth is merely the overflow of the heart: “A good man out of the good treasure of his heart bringeth forth that which is good...for of the abundance of the heart his mouth speaketh” (Luke 6:45). To consistently plant the right seeds, you must feed your heart with God’s Word. That’s how you ensure your speech aligns with truth, not fear or flesh.
If your heart is saturated with the Word of God, then your speech will naturally reflect life, love, hope, and victory. Just like a tree can only produce fruit from the seed it’s planted with, your lips will only speak from the treasure stored within.
You are a farmer in a field called life. Every word you speak is a seed sown into that field. You will surely eat the fruit—so be deliberate about what you plant. Speak God’s Word. Speak faith. Speak with purpose. Plant the future you want to see. As you go forth today, ask yourself again: Words are seeds—what am I planting?
